Established in 1952, West and Senior Limited (WSL) is a privately owned company with a workforce of over 50. We currently produce and supply in excess of 3,200 tonnes of finished product per annum, operating from our manufacturing site in Manchester, UK. As a globally aware company we export over 50% worldwide and have an established and growing network of technically competent distributors both in the UK and overseas.

Our main activities include the manufacture and supply of Pigment Dispersions and Additive Blends used in the Polymer, Rubber and Allied industries.

These are supplied as liquids, pastes, single component powders or powder blends. Material applications include; unsaturated structural polyester resins, flexible and rigid PVC, epoxy resin and polyurethane.
Supplying a range of customers, from multinational corporations and household names to newly developing businesses, WSL’s success has stemmed from our levels of technical service, rapid response and ability to demonstrate security of supply with total consistency. By developing technology with our customers needs in mind, we have overcome many problems where solutions deemed not to exist. A question only becomes a problem if you don’t have a solution, we have many solutions, but if we don’t have one, we will develop one !


This is an area where WSL excel, we offer a very technical service, and we work closely with our customers in the development of bespoke, customer specific technologies, from the most basic to the most demanding of applications. The colour is only part of the formulation, the end use and production process of the customer are also extremely important, and every one of our formulations reflect this, in all our products. A full colour matching service is available from our central research laboratory. For customers wishing to blend their own colours we offer the FASTINT™ range of mono-pigment tinters. We also supply products from our own FASCOL™ multi polymer range as well as many other internationally recognised ranges such as BS4800, BS5252, RAL840HR®, PANTONE®, NCS etc. We now have in excess of 37,000 formulations on our database, with 19,000 products currently active.

Additives and Foaming Agents

Since the 1980’s WSL has operated a powder blending, dispersion and distribution unit for a range of process additives, including chemical foaming agents and flame retardants. Additive technologies are often client defined and may include our FASCOM™ range of chemical foaming agents. This range has been developed over a number of decades with proven industrial success. The grades may be offered in single or multi - component format, tailored to optimise your overall performance, reacting synergistically with the base polymers and final processing demands.

West & Senior conform to all current UK and European legislation and has recently been awarded the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Standard.

Company History

Robert Senior (1922 - 2009) was born in Huddersfield. He attended Huddersfield Tech and obtained qualifications in Organic Chemistry to eventually become a Member of the Royal Institute of Chemistry (MRIC). After 4 years in the RAF as a navigator during WWII he returned to industry with Organic Dyestuffs in Salford. This is where he first became acquainted with Harold Wyndham West. Harold West was a major supplier to the company, and was a man of great experience he was very much in the style of the famous Manchester Merchants. Bob and Harold decided to form a company using Bob's technical knowledge and Harold's business acumen.
